November 28,2001, Dr. George Cole, Professor of Management and Marketing at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania and Ray Jones, computer systems analyst for the Maine Department of Human Services enjoyed the opportunity of speaking to the Korean Students Association at Wellesley College.Dr. Cole spoke on his service in Panmunjom, Korea in the late 1960's. He also covered cultural differences that he experienced in that country. Mr. Jones who served in Panmunjom in 1969 also spoke of his experiences there. Additionally he covered his very close relationship to the Korean people and his personal plan for peaceful reunification on the Korean peninsula.
Both men served as military policemen at the Joint Security Area. As such they provided physical security for the area, the Military Armistice Commission officials, and the Swiss and Swede Neutral Nations Observers. In those days, Panmunjom was not physically partitioned and both men faced their North Korean counterparts on a daily basis. Their experience was up close and sometimes physical.
